Solitude Collective
A dedicated weekly space to experiment with and build solitude practices that feed creativity, joy and taking a deep breath.
“I hold this to be the highest task for a bond between two people: that each protects the solitude of the other.” - Rainer Rilke
What is Solitude Collective?
Solitude Collective is a experimental community gathering focused on building individual practices of solitude.
We meet once a week on Sundays from 3:00PM - 5:00PM to explore solitude in a quiet and supportive environment.
Facilitators offer prompts and invitations for deepening our practices and people bring their own thoughts, ideas, and feelings to tend to.
Our weekly solitude collective:
Each week will include guided large scale solitude practices (labyrinth walks, nature solo, eco-art practices), extended periods of solitude, and gentle time in shared space.
Tea, snacks, unlimited journals, art supplies all provided.
Sundays from May 31 - July 26 at 3 - 5pm OR
Sundays from September 13 - November 8 at 3-5pm
How does it work?
Solitude Collective is $225 for a 9-week semester. It has a 3 part rhythm: labyrinth walk, nature solo, eco-art exploration. Repeat.
Solitude Collective is therapeutic, but it is not group therapy. We trust everyone’s ability to do as much inner work as they feel up to in a supported and held frame. There will some opportunities to share within the group, but the focus is on quiet and individual experience
Solitude Collective might be the right space for you if:
> Solitude helps you feel more creative, grounded and connected to yourself and it’s hard to find dedicated time for it.
> You already explore your inner world and reflect but you’re keen to have a frame and receive invitations for different ways in
> You are curious about what a weekly solitude practice might make space for in your daily life
“Because of who I am and what I do, there’s always this focus on others. I am so quick to attune to other people’s needs, wants, vibes, energies, etc., and often don’t have the capacity to look inward. I tried eco-therapy over the weekend, and I got really comfortable (or uncomfortable) with my feelings. I was able to be just me without any social expectations, go forest bathing, spend solitude in nature, and practice trusting my gut.” - JeeHye, Emberwood Participant
The space we are holding:
You’ll arrive to the familiar faces and rituals to help you settle. Phones away, journals out, and the hot water already on.
As the weeks pass, you’ll start to anticipate the familiar invitations and practices. You don’t have to search for answers, they’ll start come as the noise quiets.
The spaciousness brings true slowing down and balance. Tending the inner world, let’s your breathe in the outer.
How you might leave:
> With a sense of connection to your inner world alongside clarity and excitement to connect to the external world again.
> With growing strength around your solitude practices and prioritizing yourself
> A gentle, steady energy moving you into the week ahead.
The Nitty Gritty
-
Folks in Solitude Collective have already attended either Little Lodge or StillPoint.
While we think everyone can benefit from solitude and nature, people are at different places in their journey. We want you to have a good sense of who we are and what we do before you commit to a 2.5 months of being with us!
-
Nope! Our approach is therapeutic but this is not group therapy. Individuals decide what parts of their inner life they want to tend to. There is minimal sharing and facilitators cannot provide in depth 1-1 support.
Hard things do come up and we can witness, honour and be present with you. If you are in a particularly challenging time with your mental health, Solitude Collective could work if you have other therapeutic supports in your life.
-
About 90% of our participants are 2SLGBTQIA+. However, we find it's more about being queer as an outlook on life.
So, whether you're straight, bi, disabled, BIPOC, reclaiming fatness, or neurodivergent, Emberwood really vibes with all people who like to trust their intuition, think outside the cultural norm, love learning deeply about themselves, and find meaning in the world.
Scientifically-backed woo-woo - we’re here for it!
-
Haahah yep - you know us! We will get you out there every 3rd session. You can borrow warm clothes and gear from us if you need it!
-
At Solitude Collective you will have dedicated time and space to: journal, make art, sit or walk or explore outside, do small rituals like burn things, drink tea, talk with friends, and walk the labyrinth.
Think of it like daydreaming space. You’ve been imaging a new job but haven’t really had the time to explore what that means. You can do that here. You’ve been meaning to think about all those questions your therapist asked you to reflect on but keep forgetting. You can do that here. You want to make art just because! You can do that here.
-
Sometimes life has a way of disrupting the best laid plans. We’ll send an email with the invitations for each week in case you have to miss time with us.
If you know in advance you’ll be away, you can make a little “to go” kit the week before.
If you look at the calendar and already know you’ll miss more than 3 session, it’s probably best to wait until the next round.
We aren’t able to offer refunds for this program. But can prorate your program fee if you need to stop for medical reasons.
