Our commitments to accessibility and intersectionality…

pro-trans, pro-choice, pro-cake

Equity.

At Emberwood, the minority is the majority. You can expect at least 51% of participants to have a minority demographic. Sexual and gender diverse participants, people of colour, and disabled folks: you may use discount codes QUEERTRANS30, BIPOC30, or DISABILITYPRIDE30 for 30% automatically off retreat price.

Brains.

We are…

  • An introvert-friendly place - we celebrate people saying ‘pass’ if they do not wish to share

  • A stim-safe place

  • Trauma-informed

Pandemic-Safe Practices.

We use masks (provided) during the indoor portions of our events.

Identity.

We want you to come exactly as you are. Absolutely ALL are welcome.

All colours, all cultures, all spiritual traditions or none, all bodies, all brains, all sizes, all genders, all sexualities, all experience levels with the outdoors. Please inquire about ASL interpretation availability.

Bathrooms.

Bathrooms are all-gender.

At Nest, you learn to go to the bathroom in the backcountry but please let us know if you need access to the outhouse throughout the retreat instead — this can absolutely be arranged.

Ages

We host people from grade 12 to older adults.

If you are younger but feel ready, we can discuss it; we’d love to have you.

Mobility.

Lodge (cabins): Inquire about the barrier-free bathroom and cabin for Lodge. Lodge is wheel-friendly in seasons without snow.

Nest (backcountry): Nest is not accessible for wheels, with uneven ground. Nest can be attended with lower mobility and fatigue. We often drive folks into the site and we’d be happy to do that.

Emberwood Norms.

  • We stop for animals - interrupt us if you see one!

  • ‘Pass’ if you don’t wish to share

  • You don’t have to make eye contact or ‘pay attention’

  • Make this experience your own

Food.

Commonly, we cook plant-based for the whole group. We cook for the dietary needs of the participants. Gluten-free? You’re all set! Reach out if you have questions, and we’ll collaborate about your needs. We are eating-disorder-informed and have a no-diet-talk norm.
